Overview

Segmenting by campaign engagement is one of the most popular ways to use Smart Segments — it lets you quickly identify your most engaged subscribers, or the ones who've gone quiet, across both email and SMS.

How to create the segment

  1. Click the Profiles tab.

  2. Click Segments, then click +New Segment.

  3. Name your segment.

  4. Choose All Subscribers to include everyone, or select a specific list to segment within.

  5. In the Rules section, choose one of the following and set your value in # Days: Email:

    • Has opened any emails in (# Days)

    • Has not opened any emails in (# Days)

    • Has clicked any emails in (# Days)

    • Has not clicked any emails in (# Days)

    • Has received any emails in (# Days)

    • Has not received any emails in (# Days)

    SMS:

    • Has clicked any SMS in (# Days)

    • Has not clicked any SMS in (# Days)

    • Has received any SMS in (# Days)

    • Has not received any SMS in (# Days)

  6. Click Create Segment. Your segment will populate and appear under Segments.

  7. Click into your new segment to view its subscribers.

Note: most segments populate within a minute, but larger lists can take up to 5 minutes.

Tip: once your segment is created, check out our guide on how Smart Segments update to understand its refresh schedule — and be careful with the Auto Update toggle next to your segment's name, since turning it off deactivates the segment entirely rather than just pausing its refresh.
