If you've set up your store on Shopify you might see discrepancies between the number of abandoned carts and the number of abandoned cart emails sent out by SmartrMail. Due to CAN-SPAM regulation and Shopify's Terms we can't send your abandoned cart emails to everyone. Below we have outlined who can receive abandoned cart emails and who can't.

Who Can Receive Abandoned Cart Emails:

  • Customers who have accepted email marketing previously
  • Customers who have entered their email address and ticked the "Subscribe to our newsletter" box

Who Can't Receive Abandoned Cart Emails:

  • Customers who have unsubscribed from your emails with SmartrMail¬†
  • Customers who have entered their email address and not ticked the "Subscribe to our newsletter" box
  • Customers who have entered their email address and unticked the "Subscribe to our newsletter" box
  • Customers who have previously not accepted email marketing


Tip: Increase newsletter signups by having customers accept email marketing by default. They'll still be able to untick the box, but most won't.
