Understand the Conditions Available for Smart Segments

See what each segmentation condition means, so you can build the right list for your campaign.

Overview

The conditions below can be combined within a single Smart Segment by adding multiple rules. See our guide on how Smart Segments update for how often your segment's membership refreshes.


Campaign engagement

  • Has opened any emails in (# Days) — subscribers who have opened any number of emails within your set amount of days

  • Has not opened all emails in (# Days) — subscribers who have not opened all of your emails within your set amount of days. Combine with "Subscriber Added More Than (# Days) ago" to clean unengaged subscribers off your list.

  • Has clicked any emails in (# Days) — subscribers who have clicked on any number of emails within your set amount of days. Useful for identifying your most engaged subscribers before increasing sending frequency during sales holidays.

  • Has not clicked all emails in (# Days) — subscribers who have not clicked on any of your emails within your set amount of days

  • Has received any emails in (# Days) — subscribers who have received any type of email within your set amount of days

  • Has not received any emails in (# Days) — subscribers who have not received any emails of any kind in your set amount of days

  • Has clicked SMS in (# Days) — subscribers who have clicked on any number of SMS within your set amount of days

  • Has not clicked all SMS in (# Days) — subscribers who have not clicked on any of your SMS within your set amount of days

  • Has received any SMS in (# Days) — subscribers who have received any type of SMS within your set amount of days

  • Has not received any SMS in (# Days) — subscribers who have not received any SMS of any kind in your set amount of days

Campaigns

  • Has opened sent email campaign — subscribers who opened a specific email campaign

  • Has not opened sent email campaign — subscribers who didn't open a specific email campaign

  • Has clicked sent email campaign — subscribers who clicked in a specific email campaign

  • Has not clicked sent email campaign — subscribers who didn't click in a specific email campaign

  • Has received sent email campaign in (# Days) — subscribers who received a specific email campaign in a set number of days

  • Has not received sent email campaign in (# Days) — subscribers who didn't receive a specific email campaign in a set number of days

  • Has received sent SMS campaign — subscribers who received a specific SMS campaign

  • Has not received sent SMS campaign — subscribers who didn't receive a specific SMS campaign

  • Has clicked sent SMS campaign — subscribers who clicked in a specific SMS campaign

  • Has not clicked sent SMS campaign — subscribers who didn't click in a specific SMS campaign

  • Has received sent SMS campaign in (# Days) — subscribers who received a specific SMS campaign in a set number of days

  • Has not received sent SMS campaign in (# Days) — subscribers who didn't receive a specific SMS campaign in a set number of days


Subscription status

  • Subscribed to SMS

  • Subscribed to email


Purchase activity

  • Has ordered in (# Days) — subscribers who have purchased from your store within your set number of days

  • Has not ordered in (# Days) — subscribers who have not purchased from your store within your set number of days. Good for sending introductory offers to non-buyers, or automating a win-back campaign.

  • Orders (# Total) — subscribers who have purchased more or less than a specified number of times

  • Customer spend ($ Total) — subscribers who have spent more or less than a specified amount, total

  • Customer spend ($ Average) — subscribers who spend more or less than a specified amount, on average


Product specific purchase history

  • Has purchased product — subscribers who have purchased specific items. Useful for cross-selling other products post-purchase.

  • Has not purchased product — subscribers who have not purchased specific items

  • Has purchased any product — subscribers who have purchased any product from your store

  • Has not purchased any product — subscribers who have never purchased from your store

  • Has purchased product containing — subscribers who have purchased any product containing a particular word

  • Has not purchased product containing — subscribers who have not purchased products containing a particular word


Cart activity

  • Has abandoned any product — subscribers who have abandoned any cart over time

  • Has abandoned product — subscribers who have abandoned a specific product (or products) in their cart over time

  • Has abandoned from collection — subscribers who have abandoned products from a specific collection (or collections) in their cart over time

Important: SmartrMail doesn't consider whether an abandoned cart was later recovered. If an abandoned cart was created for a subscriber, they'll be included in this segment regardless of whether they went on to complete the purchase.


Date/Days added

  • Subscriber Added After Date — subscribers added to SmartrMail after a static date

  • Subscriber Added Before Date — subscribers added to SmartrMail before a static date

  • Subscriber Added (# Days) ago — subscribers added to SmartrMail more or less than a set number of days ago


Location

  • From Location — subscribers who are from a certain location

  • Not from Location — subscribers who are not from a certain location


Company

Confirmed as a general condition, available across platforms — it reads from the "Company" field on a customer's default address (populated from Shopify, PrestaShop, and other connected platforms' address data), not from Shopify's separate B2B Companies feature.

  • Company name is — subscribers with a particular company name

  • Company name is not — subscribers who do not have a particular company name

  • Company name contains — subscribers with a particular word in their company name

  • Company name does not contain — subscribers without a particular word in their company name

  • Company name is blank — subscribers with no company name on file

  • Company name is not blank — subscribers who do have a company name on file


Email

  • Email contains — subscribers with a particular word or string of characters in their email address (e.g. .gov)

  • Email does not contain — subscribers without a particular word or string of characters in their email address


SMS

  • Phone number contains — subscribers with a particular country code

  • Phone number does not contain — subscribers without a particular country code


Custom property

  • With a Text field — segment based on an imported text value (is, is not, contains, etc.)

  • With a Number field — segment based on a number (is, more than, less than, etc.)

  • With a Date field — segment based on a date (date is, is before, is after, etc.)

  • With a Birthday date — segment based on a birthday (today, in X days, is month X, etc.)

Note: the Custom Property option only appears if at least one custom field has been manually imported into your SmartrMail account. See our guide on creating custom fields for how to set these up.


Shopify-only rules

Note: the following are only available for Shopify stores.

Tags

  • Tag is — subscribers marked with a specific tag in your Shopify store

  • Tag is not — subscribers not marked with a specific tag in your Shopify store

Vendor

  • Has purchased from vendor — subscribers who have purchased a product from a specific vendor

  • Has not purchased from vendor — subscribers who have not purchased a product from a specific vendor

Collections

  • Has purchased from collection — subscribers who have purchased from a specific collection in your store

  • Has not purchased from collection — subscribers who have not purchased from a specific collection in your store


Neto-only rules

Note: the following are only available for Neto stores. See Neto's own field definitions for more detail on these options.

Location

  • Post Code is between — subscribers living within specific postcode areas in Australia (numbers only)

  • Post Code isn't between — subscribers living outside specific postcode areas in Australia (numbers only)

Classifications

  • From Classification1 — subscribers under Classification1 (enter the classification's name, e.g. "VIP")

  • Not from Classification1 — subscribers not under Classification1

  • From Classification2 — subscribers under Classification2 (e.g. "Small Business")

  • Not from Classification2 — subscribers not under Classification2

User Groups

  • From User Group — subscribers under a specific User Group (enter the group's name, not its code, e.g. "Retail")

  • Not from User Group — subscribers not under this User Group

Web Status (choose one: Active, Inactive, or Blank)

  • Active — subscribers with personal websites enabled

  • Inactive — subscribers with personal websites disabled

  • Blank — subscribers with personal websites enabled, but no website provided

Account Manager is / is not — subscribers linked to, or not linked to, a specific account manager

Sales Channel is / is not — subscribers who purchased through a specific sales channel
