Overview
An Image + Caption block pairs an image with a title and caption. Unlike using a separate Text block underneath an image, this block lets you control exactly how the image and text are positioned relative to each other — side by side, or stacked — with fine-grained alignment options.
Key benefits / use cases
Upload your own product images to keep sizing uniform across your email
Use a different image for a product than what's already on your e-commerce store
Add a caption to an image that isn't a product photo
How to add an image + caption block
Click the + button at the point in the automation or email where you want to add the block, then select Image + Caption.
Click Add image to upload an image from your device. Uploads are capped at 5MB, the same limit that applies across every image upload in the composer.
Add a title and caption using the two text fields provided.
Optionally, add a link in the Link field to send subscribers to a specific page when they click the image or caption. This must be a valid URL — link types like
mailto:are not accepted and will show a "Please enter valid URL" error.
Note: If you don't want a title, delete the placeholder text in the title field and leave it blank.
Tip: for uniform sizing, we recommend the following image widths depending on your layout: 385px for a 1-column layout, 600px for a 1-column vertical layout, 300px for 2 columns, and 195px for 3 columns. See our image recommendations guide for more detail.
Positioning your image and caption
This block is fully customizable, not fixed to one layout. In the block's settings, you can adjust:
Width and Height (px)
Image corner radius (px)
Block layout — choose whether the image sits to the Right, Left, Bottom, or Top of your caption
Image alignment — Left, Center, or Right
Image vertical alignment — Top, Middle, or Bottom
Text vertical alignment — Top, Middle, or Bottom
Image/text ratio — 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 2:1, or 3:1
Note: on mobile, the image and caption stack vertically — the block simply resizes to fit the smaller screen rather than repositioning based on your Block layout setting.
Note: there's no character limit on the title or caption fields. Adding a large amount of text doesn't get cut off — it simply stretches the block taller to fit everything.
FAQs
Does the caption always appear beside the image?
Not necessarily — you can choose whether the image sits to the right, left, above, or below the caption using the Block layout setting. On mobile, everything stacks vertically regardless of this setting.
Can I choose which side the image appears on?
Yes — the Block layout setting lets you choose Right, Left, Bottom, or Top, and you can further fine-tune positioning with the image and text alignment settings.
What image formats and size are supported?
Uploads are capped at 5MB — the same limit that applies across every image upload in the composer, not just this block.
What kind of link can I add?
A standard URL only — link types like mailto: addresses aren't accepted and will show a "Please enter valid URL" error.
Is there a character limit on the title or caption?
No — there's no limit. Adding a lot of text simply makes the block taller rather than getting cut off.
