Learn why toll-free phone numbers need to go through a verification process

Toll-Free Verification is currently required in the US and Canada.

SMS sent to the US and Canada with an unverified Toll-free phone number will not be delivered as it is enforced by telecommunication providers. This verification process is automatic and can take 5 to 10 working days.

You can verify the status of your Toll-free number in your SmartrMail account's settings dashboard -> SMS settings tab -> SMS numbers panel:

What can I do while waiting for my number to be verified?

While your number is being verified, we do not recommend that you use this toll-free phone number to send out SMS campaigns as most of them will be blocked by local telecommunication providers.

However, you can work on getting your account ready for SMS so that you can start getting more sales on the day when your number gets approved:

  • Collect more phone numbers with a Pop-up

  • Include SMS in your welcome series

  • Include SMS in your abandoned cart flow

Note that while you can start collecting SMS consent, SMS sending via automation will not deliver until your phone number is verified.
